Wow. First question is about UNSANE?!?! Amazing!
So anyway.... The sound of that band has so much to do with Dave, the bass player. I also had a band with Dave from unsane, and his tone and playing was a large part of that as well. He always played an old rat pedal into an SVT with at least 1 8x10 cab. Really, really fucking loud. I recorded him with a 57. A shure, sm57, and an audio technica 4033, and then with a Neumann FET47. Each mic was for a different sound. The fet47 was right up on the cabinet, and the 57 was also super close up to the speaker, centered on the cone. The 4033 was pulled back like 4 feet from the cabinet. Dave played really really fucking loud in the studio.
Chris, the singer and guitar guy... We used a dual rectifier through an old Marshall 4x12". I don't normally record large amps in the studio. Almost never. But we did for this record. He used a dual rectifier and a fender twin with his tele. Heavy gauge strings. The twin just had every knob turned all the way up.
I probably used an SM7 on both amps.
The sound of those guys, just like anything, is the sound of those guys more than the sound of the stuff we used.
They are fucking UNSANE man, and they make a very specific noise... Most classic bands are like that.
Any more questions?
